mounting 16x6.50 - 8 tire with tire spoons?

I've mounted quite a few auto tires using a set of tire spoons but never tried anything this small. This is on a JD 316 front rim. Do tires get more difficult when they are this small?

Yes, they do get harder the smaller they are. (At least yours is not a 4" rim.) But they can be done with tire spoons. lubricant helps.
Securing them down helps too. At least have the center of wheel over a rod clamped in a vise or some such. A small vise-grip clamped to the
lip of the rim will help hold one side while you lever the other side into place.

I have a set of small motorcycle spoons that work good even for full size (14,15,16") that I use. I also put a spray of silicone lube on the tire bead to make it slip
over the rim easier.

You can also use a set of those small pinch bars. You want the really small one
maybe 9 inches. They are nice and thin and strong. If you are putting tubes in
use a puff of baby powder. Things go alot easier.

If your using tubes, and the little prybars recommended, It sure wouldn't hurt to dull/round the corners.

May avoid a pinched/punctured tube.

Drill a 3/8" hole in your work table and run a length of 3/8" thread rod through the wheel and the table.
Tighten it down with nuts on the top and below the table.
You can then work the tire over the rim much easier.

Naa. Have always been carful and never have had a pinch. The tip about baby powder makes a big difference. Everything just slides along and the tube seats so smoothly. Also get hold of a valve stem fish. Oh,last night I got thnking and decided to order a set of these on Ebay. Three types of ends and $20.oo sounds about right. First lawn tractor tire I change I will let you guys know.

Oh yea. Try changing the little tiny tube in the front of a Snapper riding mower. That tiny 4 inch rim is a pistol. Left it on The machine so i could pry all over the place. Finnaly got it but not easy. Again.....try a little baby powder, it makes a difference.

$6.00 at the local tire shop for anything up to a 20" car/ pickup tire if you carry it in. Free if you buy from them.

And they will even keep the old one. Well worth it
