John Deere GT275 Question

I have a problem with my 1996 JD GT275 mower, it has the K series Kawasaki motor. The valve cover gasket was bad and allowing some oil to leak out, i
bought a new gasket at Deere, put it on and solved that issue. For some reason after 30-45 minutes of mowing, the motor starts puffing out blue
and/or white smoke esp when going down hill. I just changed the oil and was hoping that would help but no luck. You can shut it off, go back the
next day and everything is good for the same amount of time. Twice now it actually put out a big cloud of white smoke and shut off. I checked the
compression on the engine and it was around 100-105 psi. I don't know what to do now, i'm afraid its time for a motor but I just want to make sure
that it might be something fixable i don't know about. Its too good of mower to scrap or junk out, does a great mowing job.

My GT275 smokes a bit at startup but just for a few minutes. Uses only a miniscule amount of oil over a summer season. It runs strong and gives a nice cut. I intend to run it until it doesn't any more. Good luck with yours.

Most likely a valve cover gasket leaking oil onto the exhaust after shut down. Once started when cold the exhaust heat will burn it off. A lot of times, especially with Kohler Courage engines in Cub Cadets. It will make you think that it is the engine itself smoking out of the exhaust.
