White mower

I bought an older but clean looking White lawn tractor with a 14.5 B&S engine. I got it started but it smoked like crazy and died every few seconds. It seemed like the longer I waited between starting's the longer it ran when it started. The oil checked way up the dip stick so I figure draining it back to the normal run mark will fix the smoke. Any thoughts on the "running out of gas" issue? Filter? Thanks, gm

change the oil. There is probably gas in it. The thin gas/oil mixture goes through the crankcase breather, through the carburetor into the engine and thay is why it is smoking.

If there is gas in the oil, it got past the needle valve in the carburetor, probably while the machine was stored.

From Experience, it only takes about 45 minutes running with gas in the oil to completely wipe out the oil ring. My mother did that once.

If it only runs a few seconds, it probably is not getting gas.

Your fuel solenoid may not be working, the fuel filter stopped up, outlet in the tank plugged, fuel cap not venting, etc.

Sounds as if it needs a good carb cleaning.

The white smoke and over filled oil could be due to carb issues also. The carb could be allowing gas flow into the crank case.

White Equipment is sold through Tractor Supply mainly. They are good looking tractots. Problem is they are built from the cheapest parts that can be had. . Reminds me of the old Roper Rallys back in the 80's.

Quite a few White tractors here that have been pushed into the weeds with only a couple of years use on them.
