Hi everyone. Wanted to see if I could get your input on a recent purchase. I picked up a 68 112 for $50.00. It looks to be complete, except the motor (Tecumseh). The cam broke, and someone took it apart, but reassembled it and left off a few parts. From what I can tell after totally disassembling it, was that it all looks good except the cam. It snapped in half and sheared off about 1/3 of the teeth on the gear. The valves, springs, tappets and other gears look fine. The piston, rings and cylinder have minimal wear and the crank and rod look fine. It's missing the fuel pump, starter, battery, and possibly some governor linkage parts, but that's about it. The tractor has the variator, manual lift and PTO sheave, mule drive, good tires and rims, all the controls, and was repainted recently. I got an operators manual so I could see how everything works and it seems like it would be a decent tractor if it was running. I guess my main question is do you think it would be worth fixing it? From what I found on ebay, I can probably get all I need for about $200.00. I have a JD 300 as well, and have had a 212 and a 140 H3 in the past. They were all good machines. I'm used to working on the Kohler's, but the Tecumseh seems pretty decent. I was thinking of just parting it out, but now I'm having second thoughts. Any ideas? Thanks!

Those were a good tractor in their day. Still fun to collect.
You can either buy a good Tecumseh HH100 or parts to fix yours on eBay. WFMachines is another.
If the cm gear is stripped out, look the crank gear teeth over carefully.
The electronic ignition HH100's are hard to find original ignition parts for and new are NLA.
You can build or buy a replacement ignition system.
Good luck!

I mine has a Kohler on it(I think).112 square fender. $125.00 and it belongs to somebody else. NEMO

Have you considered looking around for a good 241? Not sure if they were available on a 68, but they were used on some of the square fenders. I think they were a better engine, but others might disagree.

I have, but I?d have to look into what else needs to
be changed along with the swap. Seems like the
Kohler is more expensive. Thanks!

FWIW, IIRC, the entire main frame is different between the Tecumseh and Kohler-powered versions.

I don't know how tall that Tecumseh is or if the frame is different on a 112 than a 110. I took a blowed up 8 horse Kohler out of my 110 and stuffed in a 10 horse Kohler, didn't take long to figure out the frame is different, crankshaft height is 1 1/2 inch higher and on and on and on. With some cutting and welding and adjusting I got it fully functional and looks good but wouldn't do it again. Even had to make a muffler, couldn't find anything close.

It's worth fixing, bought mine in 1990for $40 had the wrong head gasket on the Tecumseh, so it was knocking, owner said it was a bent crank and sold it to me, cast iron rear end, cast iron engine and front axel, can't go wrong fixing it.

I don?t really need it. It would be a fun project, but I?d like to make a few bucks on it. I don?t see that happening unless I part it out. Still thinking about it......
Thanks!
