JD 317 rear PTO cooling fan

Can I run the hydro with out the cooling fan on my JD 317? Winter duty only. The rear PTO output from the hydro worn out. The shaft's cross hole for the roll pin is shot.

My GUESS is that it would be OK, especially if not for long/hours at a time use, and in the winter.

Do you have any further need for the PTO, with no PTO a different fan is used, might work on the worn shaft you have, or the shaft through the hydro is actually pretty easy to replace.

(Also, the PTO assemblies are worth money, if it is surplus to your needs.)

Shaft through hydro is DEERE #M45396, there's one on ebay right now for $60.
