John Deere LT 190 starting issues

I have a John Deere LT 190 that when I turn the key to start it does nothing. I thought the battery was bad but charged it and it seems to be fine.I have cleaned the battery terminals
and I try starting it does nothing not even click. If I hook the battery charger to it and put on boost and turn the key it turns right over and starts and I can cut the yard with it.
Shut it off and it doe nothing except the discharge light comes on lights wont even turn on.
Put back on the charger and boost and it will start. Any input would be helpfu.
 
Had a little crazy problem something like that once. Somewhere in your wire harness is a plug in fuse. Bet you it is going bad or cruddy.
 
I recently had a similar issue with my John Deere S 240. My was a dirty switch. I solved by unplugging the connector from the key switch and blowing the switch out with compressed air. After reconnecting everything is working.
 
In addition to the ignition switch, likely there's several safety switches in the circuit, and switches and the connections at their terminals don't get any better with age.

You can troubleshoot with a voltmeter, check the battery voltage at the ignition switch before and during an attempt to crank, and not if it drops appreciably, then move on to the next switch in the series 'til you find a significant voltage drop.

Also, John Deere sells a "starting improvement kit", an "ice cube relay" with a simple siring harness included.

The little relay takes less current to activate than the starter solenoid, causing less voltage drop, when it closed, it switches full battery power to the main solenoid.

Your tractor probably isn't on the list of models it's intended for, but it can be used on most ANY machine, if you understand basic electricity.

You can also save some $$$ and gather up the parts and make your own little "harness".

If it starts so easy only when on the charger, I am going to say it is a battery issue.
A battery can be "charged" per the charger to 12v but that does not mean it has the amps.

I would try to hook up any other battery I had from something else and see if it will start off that battery.
