Kohler KT17 valves

I have a Wheel Horse C175 tractor, with a KT 17 engine. It started throwing gas up through the carb, and running on one cylinder. I pulled the head on the cylinder with no compression, and found the intake valve standing open. It was not hooked to the spring anymore. I opened the valve keeper hatch, and found the keeper broken, and laying down in the galley bottom. I still have to find new keepers, and figure how in heavens name, How I am going to put it on, in that limited space. I think I can compress the spring and put 2 zip ties around it, but have no idea of how to get the keeper on. anyone tell me how you do it?

Use a valve spring compressor, grease the valve spring keepers to stick to the valve stem and release spring compressor.
I have used flat tip screw drivers to compress the valve springs.

Try cinding a Briggs valve spring compressor. They do not cost much.

You put the keeper and spring in the tool together and then compress the spring. The compressor was made to fit easily into the small space on equipment engines.
