Case 444 G-46 mower deck..is it worth saving?

When I picked up my Case 444 lawn tractor it came with 2 mower decks. One deck is in good used condition but needs to be gone through with new bearings and belts. The other deck is the one in question. The spindle bearings are frozen, the lift cradle is gone, tag is gone, and the deck is thin in alot of spots. I'm more into the Massey Fergusons, but like the Case 444 also. My plans would be to take what's left that's salvageable off the deck and scrap the shell. Is there any reason not to do this? Would this deck be desirable as is?

A G-Seroes deck is not worth saving because it is not a Snap-Fast model. That deck is for tractors built BEFORE 1972. I suggest that you strip it for usable parts and scrap the rest. About all you will get are the spindles and the cast iron mandrels. The belt pulleys may be of some use also.

Quite a few of those around for sale that are in much better shape and not much money will buy them. Only the later RH discharge decks bring any money around here and they dont bring a lot because Case/Ingersol made a very nice H-D deck and with any care they last the life of the tractor. Thus unlike lessor units with poorly built decks used Case decks dont command big money because there is little demand for replacements. I am with Tom on it, if the spindles are any good take the time to remove them otherwise it is scrap IMO

Thanks guys. I was thinking along the same lines. Going to remove them from the shell and put them of the list to rebuild them over the winter. Come spring maybe I can install them on the other deck and have a quiet running unit.

Thanks again!

Ebay has some excellent replacement parts at the right price and some with free shipping. For new, and better than OEM, at the sale price, no way would I fool with that. I just redid the deck on my Husqvarna 20 hp 46" conventional rider with about 700 hard hours on it with parts from ebay. Spindles were better than OEM and belt was a Kevlar premium.
