Cub Cadt 127

Dragged this freebie home about a year ago and finally found both time and shop space to get started on it, the wiring is a mess so it took an hour just to get it fired up, seems to run fine for a 40+ yr old tractor, its been parked for years with the hydro release valve in the freewheel position which is now stuck so that will have to come out and be cleaned up. Pretty rough cosmetically but its complete and all 4 tires are holding air, came with a snowblade and chains on all 4 tires, and I have a deck for it. My plan is to get it in good working condition and put it for sale.

They dont make it easy to get at those hydro relief valves... had to pull the rear seat/fender pan off but I managed to get them unstuck and go for a little test drive

Hey Roland... the narrow frame isnt the problem.... its that [b:51e8488729][i:51e8488729]hydromatic[/i:51e8488729][/b:51e8488729] transmission..LOL

automatic transmissions = driving for dummies

Lance Skene:

I fully realize that the Relief Valves are the issue. My comments was based upon the "ease" to get to them. The WF Cubs have the removal Tunnel Cover as you should know. Real easy access. That is what I meant by my comment.

Hey just jokin with ya Roland... fig'd you would know this aint my first CC.

But since your here I do got a question for ya..... did IH ever use a B+S single cyl with horizontal shaft in the 60s or early 70s???

somebody told me they had one and they thought is was original paint... I said I didnt think so

Didnt work on the Cub yesterday at all... was a nice day so I decided to check if the wheels on the Honda Shadow still go round and round;)

...but while the seat pan is off I need to work on some rear body damage... poor thing looks like somebody was using the Cub to clear snow by pushing it with his truck bumper...

Lance:

Cub Cadets used B&S engines in some of their Lawn Tractors (ie: 76, 80, etc)

The first B&S engine in a Garden Tractor was the model 1100.

Thx Roland, that kind of confirms what I was thinking, looking on tactordata the 76, 80 and 1100 all appear to have a vertical shaft engines.... similar to the 382 hydro that I had.

I had mentioned(on another forum) that Im a big fan of the early Cubs with a disc clutch, such as the 126 I had here last year, this other fellow quoted me claiming such tractors were problematic due to a Briggs Flywheel Key.... so I questioned what tractor he had because I couldnt think of any IH Cub that would have both a B+S engine and the disc clutch.

Front pulley on the engine was a bit loose plus I wanted to inspect the pto so I took the grill and hood off today, pulley had one loose set screw, pto clutch appears near new, cleaned up and adjusted the hydro control linkage, did a little tin bashing on the rear pan, and started putting together a proper headlight panel.... things will start to go back together from here on...

Made some progress yesterday, the bodywork is back on, installed proper headlights, the PO had made a mickey mouse repair to the hydro control arm on the tranny so I cleaned that up and have it working good, the bypass valves are working good now also after being cleaned up, choke pull was stuck but came free with a little penetrating fluid so that works now, got most of the big dent out of the rear fender.

Next up to do is the ignition switch and tailights, seat, and then I'll dig out the snowblade and mower deck

Looking better everyday.
Whats up with the wiring loom outside the frame?
Did somebody sort of put a new harness on or just not put them in the frame like factory?

Thx, and yes that is some creative wiring by the PO, probably when he installed the single head light, some of which Ive already addressed under the dash when I installed a new ignition switch, Strangest part of that was that he took the power off the wrong side of the amp meter... so when the lights where turn on it appeared on the meter that it was charging the battery even if the engine wasnt running.LOL
