California Walbro Carb 5-4993

bought a used Dayton generator for $150 early this week. Said the carb was no good. I believe him. Took a rebuilt 4993 and swapped out the throttle linkage. Put it on and it ran like a scalded dog. Took it back off to figure out the choke linkage and saw that the venturi is smaller in the California Carb and the nozzle is noticeably smaller in diameter. I reckon one way to meet west coast emission guidelines is to limit the amount of gas available for combustion and remove any adjustment features. Works gooood on mine... it doesn't burn any gas, it just hunts for it.

The choke linkage on both my generator carbs features a stem that indexes with a stem spring. The Scalded Dog carb came off of a lawn tractor which has a roll pin of smaller diameter in place of the stem spring. Waah!!
My Coleman generator has a ten horse Briggs that has a good old East Coast 4993. I'll look for one of them.
