JD 160 and 165 hydrostatic

I have a 165 with a bad hydro static drive. I saw a 160 for sale that has the mower deck, engine and hood removed. Would my 12.5 hp engine, from my 165, be a drop in swap? Are the frames and wheels and tires the same size? If it isn't easy, I do not want to attempt the marriage of the two machines.
Thank you

TractorData.com says the 160 was gear drive and the 165 was hydro. So I would guess that is the only difference.
You could look at and compare part numbers for both on PartsTree .com to be sure.
Create two windows of the partstree website and then you can flip back and forth to compare easier.

Thank you for the quick replies. The ad that I saw stated that it had a good Hydro. I will contact him to have him verify what he has. TY

A 160 would have a manual trans so thats a mistake in the ad.... any late 100 series(160, 165, 170, 175) will be interchangable with your 165... models ending with a '0' are manual, models ending with a '5' are hydrostatic.
