Kubota diesels ????

Looking at a B6100 with a 3 cyl. diesel. Looks clean but I'm not familiar with diesels.
Is this anything to be afraid of ?
Cold starting issues? It has preheaters.
Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Kubota makes a very good good diesel engine. Like any other modern diesel they start pretty well using the glow plugs IF the engine is up to snuff, the battery is good and you have the correct oil in it. Your definition of "cold" maybe different than mine? Mine needs the glow plugs any time it is below about 50 degrees, and gets iffy about starting around 10 above but it is 20 years old with 1800 hours. I have never tried to start it when it was below zero.

Most of the small diesels have precombustion chambers. An engine designed this way will usually need glow plugs to get started sometimes even when warm out. Kubota makes a very nice engine. As long as it had decent care it should be fine.

Hi, I have a Kubota diesel 2 cyl B600z on my manlift. Its about 30 yr old. Its water cooled. Has glo plugs. Required every start until engine warm. Never had a speck of trouble . Ed Will Oliver BC

Thanks for the reply Ed.
This will be my first diesel engine in anything.
Do you run diesel rated oil. I've heard some say its not important.

I run 15w40 diesel rated oil in the truck (Cummins) and the Kubota. The VW requires a special synthetic diesel rated that costs far too much, but not worth the risk of deviating from manrecs. Everything I've ever heard or read stated that using diesel rated is mandatory. Has something to do with the oil's ability to hold soot in suspension.

I have a B7100 I purchased very used. It is a tuff little tractor. I live in Minnesota and it is started when it is very cold! I put a hose heater on the radiator but only use once in a while on the coldest days. I do use the 10w-30 for diesel.
