Fuel delivery and/or fuel quality. I am a big fan of using carburetor cleaner if it runs. Pull the air filter off, start it up and get about half throttle and shoot cleaner in the intake. It will stumble but try not to let it die. After a few good squirts try opening the choke up. If it stays running I would repeat the process.

Lots of times a small particle will get past the filter and clog one of the jets. If this doesn't have any effect I would also look for a potential intake leak. While running spray the intake exterior with cleaner and watch for a change in speed. If so you have found a leak and you can isolate it. Had an 8hp Briggs on a leaf blower act up and I couldn't get it to run right. Stumbled on a bad intake gasket by doing this.

If no effect suspect fuel. Do you have an in-line filter that could be clogged?
