Got a 20hp B&S on a JD111. My question is about the fuel pump. Do they get weak or is it go or no go? If mine sits for three days I have to pressurize the tank to get gas into the pump. Once it primes it works. New pump or maybe a valve problem?

Yes, they get weak.

I have replaced several of the mechanical or vacuum-operated fuel pumps on my garden tractors with low pressure electric units.

Makes for MUCH less wear and tear on the starter.

Turn the ignition switch "ON", wait a few seconds for the electric pump to get some fuel in the carb, and then crank them over.

Yes, they can get weak.

Also, check the little hose from the valve cover to the pump. If it is cracked, replace it.

Pump is a vacuum/diaphragm setup and the diaphragm can crack over time and lend the pump ineffective. They are reasonably priced and easy to replace.

If you swap it make sure you pay attention to the hose routing before you take the old one off. It's easy to get the hoses on wrong
