Hello! I hope someone here can help me! My husband has an old (maybe 1972 or so) Cub Cadet lawn tractor. The steering gear cog has 2 broken teeth. Someone attempted to fix it with welding but it didn't work. I'm trying to see where I can get this part.. either the gear or just the cog. I will attach photos. No model or serial numbers can be found anywhere. But on the part I need there is a number stamped into the metal.. 81954.. or 31984 (probably the later one). I don't k own if this is a model number (no search results) or a part number (no search results). Please help! This will be a great surprise for his birthday coming up! Thanks!

GOOGLE "Cub Cadet steering gear", then click on "images", and see if anything matches up with what you are looking for.

Could that number be 385984? That is the steering gear with the spiral threads?

I have a complete steering unit that came off a CC 124. Maybe someone can tell us if this will fit your tractor.

It would help us help you if you were to post a picture of your Cub Cadet.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is NOT a Cub Cadet. It looks like a Montgomery Wards
tractor painted yellow & white.

I've been around Cub Cadets since 1963, even had a 1972 vintage Cub Cadet. That is nothing like a Cub
Cadet.

Is there any chance that one is 'kin' to a Simplicity? (Or made by Simplicity or Allis Chalmers, depending on what year it was made)

www.simpletractors.com might be another place to ask.

I will agree, definitely not any Cub Cadet of any vintage.

I would say it is either a Montgomery Ward built by Gilson or a Gilson.
Both came in that harvest gold and white color scheme.

I agree.....Gilson made.....I couldn't find your part on e-bay......
I would Google up Gilson discussion board.....you will find a few as these are good tractors and have a fairly large following.
Someone on one of those site should be able to help you.

Yes! Thank you for your efforts! I did finally find the part number. #12085, just need to find it now! Getting warmer!

Looks like you missed one on ebay a while back...
Mite want to keep looking there, search for "Gilson Steering Gear".
