My son lives about 1 1/2 miles from me. In the city. I was wondering what if any damage would occur from driving a LT or RT back and forth to his house. I have a variety if tractors, but the one I was wondering about is an STX38 Black deck. Would the trans fluid get overly hot? Cause any damage? BTW My son weighs in at about 365 pounds. Thanks Greg

Way back when I would drive a riding lawn mower about 5 miles one way to go mow a church owned piece of land and then mow and drive it back. But that was also back in the early 70s

I respectfully suggest that your son pushes the tractor both ways and he is not allowed to pack a lunch.

STX38 can have a 5 speed gear transaxle or the K46 Hydro.... if you have the gearbox it would probably be fine but those K46 hydro's are prone to failure... [b:28d19fb29c][i:28d19fb29c]Might[/i:28d19fb29c][/b:28d19fb29c] be ok if the route is perfectly flat.

Neighbor borrowed/rented our Cub Cadet 70 to mow his large house yard and barnyard, also about 1/8th
mile of roadbank. Brand new Cub Cadet 70, used it for 7-8 years, never gave it a thought that he was over
1/2 mile away. Mowed our big house yard and barnyard plus quarter mile of roadbank too. Still the best
Cub Cadet I have, mowed the most grass of the 4 I own too. The 7 hp Kohler was either rebuilt or
replaced about every 3 years back then.

If your little Deere breaks down on it's way to your son's yard, it would have broken down on you
anyhow.

Trans temp is dependent on load, not speed, gear drive or hydro running at transport speed should be no
problem. Might add a couple pounds more air pressure in rear tires.

n the upside, I am giving my son this tractor. He only has to get it to his house, and not back. Also, there is an ice cream parlor, a pizza joint, and a Subway between here and there, so maybe it won't be one long trip. His yard is as flat as a pancake, so no problem there. Also, his step son weighs about 115 pounds soaking wet. On the down side, his step son is 17 and has wrecked 3 cars since getting his license. Either way I don't predict a long life for this tractor. That's sad, as it has served me well for many years. Thanks for all the replies. Greg

I do not remember why, but I guess I did not have a wide enough trailer at the time. I drove my 25hp Simplicity from town out here a few times. 2 miles.

(quoted from post at 18:49:26 06/06/18) If he weighs that much you should get him a push mower, an old one without an engine!
ou tell him that...NOT ME

I will not knock anyone due to their weight. Many reasons can cause a person to be obese, including health problems.

That said. Thier should be no problem with driving it that far.. An ole boy here in town that weights around 300 due to thiroid problems has been driving a Husqvarna GTH 2548 all over town towing a small trailer carring a push mower, trimmer and blower for over 10 years without any problems. He bought it new two years after I bought my GTH2754. He brings his to me to work on. 2 sets of blades, one deck spindle, 3 drive belts, 2 deck belts (he has a new one for me to change) and a set of new tires is all I ever did to it.. The guy mowes twelve yards a week along with all of the tramming he does. If the hour meter worked. It would not surpise me if showed 25 thousand hours or more as much driving that he has done with it over the years.
