Have a cub cadet with 48 inch deck, the drive spindle is bad,can the bearings be replaced or just order a new spindle? Thanks in advance!

Some yes, some no. Depends on which deck, they built a lot of different 48" decks over a very log span of time. More information needed.

You can replace the bearings as long as the spindle housing isn't cracked, these are $$ if you have to replace the whole spindle.

They use tapered roller bearing with race, I've never had to actually replace bearings but I'd assume they are a common size; you'll have to get one out to get the numbers off it to see.

I am thinking that the 48" deck on the 2185 was a Cub Cadet 301.

If so, Yes you can buy just the cone bearing [b:0be733da0e]Cub Cadet part #941-04298[/b:0be733da0e]. They only cost about $10 each and each spindle uses two of them except for the double drive pulley (engine to deck, deck to blades) Those are ball bearings [b:0be733da0e]Cub Cadet #741-1122[/b:0be733da0e] and cost around $20 each and you need two of them.

I thought I'd replace the bearings on one of mine till I realized that the aluminum spindle housing was wallowed out where the bearing siezed. I just (a couple of weeks ago) bought 2 replacement new spindles with OEM quality belt and 2 sheaves, free shipping off ebay for about $75. You can get the same thing with 2 new blades and free shipping for under $100....Husqvarna 20TK46 twin blade....I already had 3 sets of blades. Shipping was fast. Got it installed and works great.
