I have two transmissions not sure which one is that L or the Li are there markings on the transmission or someway to tell which one is which ?

The only difference between the L and LI (and the LS, for that matter) is the worm and pinion gears
that drive the axle. Everything else is identical. An L has a worm gear with 8 "leads" or
"starts" while the LI has 6. (The LS has 4.) On either end of the worm just count the number of
thread starts that you see. Also, the 8-lead L worm gear would have a greater angle on the pitch
of the thread while the LI would be more shallow.
