Sickle bar mower

The round fenders and square fender tractors are quite a bit different. The PTO setup is completely different, and the attaching brackets will also be different. If you like cutting and welding, you can make it work. If the mower is a Haban, you will have a lot better luck finding parts than other brands.

There is no doubt that it can be made to work with a little fabrication.
I don't know much about John Deeres but I think the round fender tractors are quite valuable so I'm assuming that attachments for them are as well.
Sicklebar mowers work extremely well.
So......the question is, should you modify it and make a very usable implement for yourself out of it..... or.......sell it to someone who can display it on his collectible tractor?
These thing are becoming quite rare and you might be surprised at its value!

This summer I finally got the sickle bar for my Gravely put together. Took three years of fooling around till I got all of the parts I needed. Lots of stuff on fleabay if you look around. Like the other post, if a collector can use it, might be better to sell it. If you can find the correct one we can tell you where to get all of the parts. When these are set up correctly they mow SOooooo slick! Worth the cost and time. There are a lot of little adjustments and such but nothing you can't handle. The standard mower for the Gravely is 3 1/2 foot long and mine is the commercial one and is five feet wide. Like mowing with a B-17 wing span! The grass just falls over like toy solders. All of the colors on mine are correct because Mc Cormick Deering, then farmall made the mower parts for Gravely. If you bought one from the company they would spray paint it black. This one is made from parts and these are the colors that MD used. Just crazy to do it this way but fun. Works slick as can be. Let us know what you want to do.

Sickle bar mowers use much, much less horsepower than rotary mowers because they slice the hay.
I have a bevy of sickle bar mowers including a Gravely and an Allis WD-45. The Allis developed a Knock so I didn't use it this year.
I haven't used the Gravely in a few years because it is impractical on some of my steep banks.
I did use my Ford LGT-120 and my Jari a lot this year.
