Cub cadet PTO problems

I inherited my dad's Cub Cadet 149. Nice tractor but needed some TLC. The Pto clutch lasted about half an hour then wouldn't engage. Upon inspection I discovered it had been worn out for years and readjusted untill the thrust button and fingers were worn away. Installed a rebuild kit, new thrust button, fingers, bearing and springs. Got everything back together and the PTO works as it should. My problem is I can't get the wear button to hold together. First try it lasted about 5 seconds. Took the mount to a machinist had him resurface the face to get a smoothe surface( It had worn away at an angle ).Reinstalled a new button and tried again. Seemed that all was well. It held up at idle and low rpm but at full throttle it gave way again. The wear button surface does not look parallel to the thrust button. Looks like it never has been since new ( mount looks welded crooked ). Could this be my problem ?

There's a wear button on the clutch AND a fiber mushroom shaped thing on the clutch lever do you have both????

Also, is the clutch adjusted properly? If not, it'll eat the button off too.

I bought brass button from a guy on E-bay. Had very good luck with them. Your hole may be worn try a dab of JB weld when you install a new button.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to heat up the arm that carries the button and get it parallel with the clutch. Install one more fiber button and try that. If it fails I'll get one made of something else.

All that has been said will help for sure but the newer replacment button doesn't seem to be the same material as original ones were. I found an old stock one for mine and was a different ball game.
