John Deere 314

I have a John deere 314 with a kohler K321 that started to misfire. I found the points burned so I replaced them and installed a new sparkplug. I started the tractor which ran fine until it is under a load it will start to misfire. I rechecked the timing and rebuilt the carburetor, but it still starts and runs well until it is loaded up. I am not sure what to go after next. Could it be a valve issue? I also have not replaced the condenser yet? Any one have an issue like this. I hate to tear into the head if I missed something simple. Thanks.

Since you said the points burned, I would change the condenser first.

You may have a carb. issue, I have seen them run well until you call for lots of fuel through them-under load-and then they just cant' supply it.

After replaceing condenser,if you still have problem, try readjusting hi-speed needle with load on eng,you may still have some dirt in carb & needle set a little too lean,if that doesen't help, possible weak fuel pump, fuel filter needs replacement or if eng getting on the tired side & burning oil, carbon buildup on valve stems & valves/valve seats,a head gasket that's starting to/is leaking or low compression due to ring/cyl wear.

i have been chasing a gremlin in a 210 jd , did just about
everything you have so far.
i found the problem.... fuel pump
i disconnected the hose from fuel pump to carb and connected
a small gas tank that i use for other engines to the carb.
the engine runs smooth without the pump.
try this with any gas tank you have around, make sure you
have the tank higher than the carb for gravity feed.
don't forget to crimp the hose from your tractor tank to pump.
hope this helps Dan

Try opening the main jet adjusting screw as Joe suggested. That will enrich the fuel mixyure even Briggs & Stratton carbs have that feature. Hal

If the points were BADLY burnt check that someone has not replaced the coil with a non-resister coil. Kohler engine use a resister coil.
