K161t on a tiller with no spark

I have a tiller with a K161T engin spec no. 281271j with no spark. We pulled the fly wheel and cleaned the magnet and magneto. still no spark. What does that small silver can like object do? Can the magneto be bad? What else could cause no spark?

I have a K181T that I had the same trouble with and I went through
everything and even sent it out with NO luck in finding the
problem. The only thing that I din't check was the breaker point
push rod, I took it out and it was an alum. one so I put in a new
steel one and adjusted points and it started right up. The alum. rod
was worn down and sticking so hope this helps you out too.

Do you have points? If you do you should clean them with some 320 wet or dry until they're shiny. Then see if you have fire to your plug. That silver can is probably your condenser. When you have that flywheel off check your magnets for magnetism using a flatblade screwdriver. It should attract it with a lot of effort when you touch the magnet. If the engine shutoff is on the throttle you need to make sure to move the throttle control to a run position. Hal

The silver can under flywheel is the condenser, clean & check gap on points, confirm with an ohmmeter/powered test light you're getting a circut thru points when they close(wire to coil disconnected from points)no spark can be caused by points not closeing/opening,dirty/worn contacts, gap not set correctly/needs an adj, point push pin sticking/worn,condenser open/shorted,bad coil or if tiller has remote stop sw,wire to sw shorted to frame or sw bad.

That's the first place you need to check when there's no fire on these old engines with points.
