John Deere 260

I have a JD 260 (s/n 476340) that the needle and float was stuck in the carb on the FC540 (s/n 079581). I have gotten it freed up and was going to take the float off and clean the needle area real good when I noticed one of the bosses the float pivot pin mounts in is broke right thru the pivot hole. I just flushed it real good with spray brake cleaner and am going to try it. Does anybody have a good used carb for the Kawasaki FC540? I went on Deere's parts site and they show four nembers for the carb, but same kit for all (kit AM118722). I think maybe this is the #32123 carb as it has the solenoid on the bottom and the vent line also, where it was leaking fuel when I started. Or a location to find one? I hate to think what a new green one would cost. Thanks

Well I have it all back together, but am having trouble getting it to start. First it is not pouring fuel out the vent tube any more, so freeing the needle must have fixed that. It will start momentarily on a whiff of flammable Brake Cleaner but won't continue to run. I figured ether was too strong for it. The float bowl has fuel in it as I loosened the drain screw and it dribbled out. I can feel the solenoid vibrate or something if I pull the wire off while the switch is on. What exactly is this solenoid supposed to do, turn the fuel off when power is off? Can I remove it and plug the hole so gas doesn't run out? Or do I just need to get a kit and soak the carb? Last summer it ran ok but the drive belt would not stay on the mower, now I cannot get that far to figure out the problem.

first dont use brake cleaner to spray in carb it
will eat the ruber out in the carb you need to take
the carb a part an clean it or soke it in cleaner
to get all the passages clean

1st...quit using brake cleaner on an engine. Brake
cleaner is designed to extract and dissolve oil
from metal...very bad

You will need to soak the carb and get a kit. The
solenoid is complements of the EPA...it's a combo
fuel shut off/anti evap device...if it's not
opening, the carb wont work...just another pain in
the ...

I had a smaller Kawasaki on a push mower and had
continual carb issues. One fall, I took the carb
off and went to a show. I found a junk parts guy
and a carb off of an old Techumseh that swapped
out perfectly...no more problems.
