Oil light flashing

Ihave a 416-8 wheel horse tractor that has been sitting in a barn for about 3 years and i had to replace the fuse block bc the original was bad. Everything else seems to be ok but when i tried to start it the oil light is flashing and all i get when turning the key is a click and that is it. yes it has plenty of oil in it that was the first thing i checked. i know it has a oil senseor that wont let it start if the oil is low could that go bad? The book only talks breifly about the sensor so it was no help.

Jumper the sensor and see if the engine cranks over or starts then you know its the sensor that defective. Hal

I also had a 416-8 with a bad fuse block and some rotten wiring. Check the wires at the connection between the engine and firewall. There is a plastic connector that on mine had some wires that were corroded. I thought the oil sensor was for low pressure not low oil in the pan. Do the other lights light up for the saftey switches and and clutch if they are not set correctly? The fact that you get the click if I recall correctly means that everything is set properly and it is trying to run the starter. That was when I found the corroded wire at the plastic connector.

On a side note that was a dumb place for the fuse block in the first place.

i tried to trace the wires for it so i could do that but the book isnt very helpful on what is what and i am not familier with wheel horse tractors. i dont know where to hook new wires to jump the sensor. where do i take wires to and from to jump the sensor

as far as i can tell all the other lights are working properly i would engage the pto and no brake and not push it the clutch and it would always light up corectly. in the owners manual it said there is a saftey switch for low oil and will not let the motor start. the oil in the tractor was not that old and i made sure it was full before trying to start it but the light comes on and it clicks but that is it.all lights and guages works. i spun the motor over manually to get oil in the system form where it was setting for so long but it didnt change anything.

Goto link below, enlarge & print drawing, eng has a magnetic float sw,contacts in same close when oil low, this operates a control relay(this is probably what you hear clicking) breaking feed to starter sol coil & lighting low oil light, try disconnecting float sw on eng block,DON'T jumper sw connector, this will tell tractor no oil in eng,see if starter sol/motor now work

Are you getting any voltage to your starter when you hear that click? You need a helper and a volt meter to check your starter to see if any voltage is getting there from the starter solenoid. Be careful when working around the starter. Hal

thank you for the wireing diagram but mine is a two cylinder engine. i only had a limited amount of time when i was trying to work on it so i am going to find time when i can spend more time and study the wire diagram in the book a little more, but, all info is helpful right now. thank you again

Wiring different for twin eng,goto link below & enlarge/print drawing,this is for a 18/20hp twin onan,wiring for 16hp twin should be same/very similar,I don't have wiring diag 416 twin

ok i have narrowed it down to the oil pressure switch. a new one is 127 dollars and i was wondering i anyone had a used one or knew where to find one cheaper incase that is not the problem.i have tore the tractor apart to check everything and that is the only thing it keeps coming back too. i talked to a wheel horse mechanic and he is on the same thought i am and he said there is no real way to jump the switch so it is hit or miss that is why i want to find one cheap. thanks for the help.

If eng an onan P216(you never said if eng an onan or kohler)goto ebay & type onan oil pressure switch in search, several listed, you will need onan pn for switch to get correct sw
