Power Major or Super Major with Gas Engine?

Just bought (site unseen) another gas major - bringing my total up to 3. The seller advertised this as a Super Major, which I assumed was a mistake because I didn't think they offered the supers or powers in gas. But from the pictures the paint looks pretty original, and certainly has some other aspects of the supers, including the later paint scheme the later supers in the US had. Then I saw tractordata shows the Power and Super Major was also available with the petrol engine.

Did they actually offer the power and supers with the gas engine? And if they did, did they still make the same HP as the diesels? I'm very doubtful, but am certainly curious.

It is amazing, the number of ads, or pictures listed as Super Majors, and pictures showing a New Major Diesel, or Power Major.

Thanks Majorman, that's kind of what I suspected. I don't think this one is a super - he just advertised it wrong. Which is fine with me - I suspected that to begin with and it was cheap enough that I'm still glad to have a third one around.

I was kind of hoping they did offer the gas in the Supers with a higher HP rating, that way I could use this one on the sawmill at shows. But I'll keep the Super W6 on the mill for now.

Spark ignition engines finished in the Major range in 1957. However, I have a friend who has a petrol engine in a Super Major, ex factory. It was built as a special order for a company who could not use a diesel engine in a certain application and used the old throttle through the block engine from the early 1950's. That would be 32 hp as opposed to the 55 hp in a diesel Super Major. Engine blocks were available until a few years ago as they were being produced by Ebro in Spain who bought the production line and drawings when Ford cleared it out of Dagenham.

Hi, in parts lists the petrol parafin eta ends 4/57, but petrol is mentioned until end of production. Ive seen an original military petrol only tractor with a mk II/III engine style if I remember correctly. Was an ex Dutch army tractor.
