This name plate with the small Diesel has me curious.
The engine number indicates a 1953 model, but could have been changed.

No, that is how some tractors from around 1952 were badged. The plain Fordson Major badge was used on the petrol and petrol/kerosene models and the 'Big Diesel' used on the diesel from around 1954. Later, Ford started to use the small diesel badge again, I suspect, to use up stocks of the Major badge as it was cheaper to make the smaller badge as stocks ran down. Badges changed in 1958 with the introduction of the Power Major.
