Hi all, have just purchased what I think is a 1961 farm major in Australia and Im worried about this corrosion issue. No idea why or what part it is and if it corrodes and breaks can it be fixed or just plugged?? Looks like a governor shaft going into the side of the block on left hand side of engine. Thankyou very much for any info
Have attached pics hopefully they work.

Hi Luke,
From your picture that engine is not a 1961 it is more like a 1952 to 1954 with the throttle
shaft through the block although the engine was continued on in trucks and new blocks are
available.

The tube through the water jacket that the throttle rod runs in has corroded through and that is
where your leak is coming from. I have never seen one repaired although it must be possible,
most tractors required a new block and a modification to the throttle linkage to take it around
the back of the block.

It may be possible to remove the rod and block the holes with (say) JB Weld then fit the later
linkage from a donor tractor, I have seen many laying around on farms and yards over there, the
other way is to get a donor engine.

On the early tractors, the rear of the block is not drilled to take the linkage so you would
have to come up with a mounting method.

It might be useful to contact the Fordson Club of Australia at Mandurang South near Bendigo in
Victoria, they have some very skilled members who may be able to guide you in the right
direction for parts.

Should also have said, if you go down the replacement block route, one from a petrol, petrol/kerosene, truck or tractor of the same era will all be the same and fit. They all use the same block.

Thankyou very much for the information! I will get in
contact with them and start looking and researching now
I have the correct info. Thankyou very much guys.
