First, it is NOT a Perkins engine if you start trying to fit some Perkins parts they
will not fit. Ford made all the castings and Perkins assembled it for Ford. Perkins
engines never used the Simms pump.

Injection pumps are not really the sort of thing you strip down unless you have all
the right tools to reset all the settings and have a dust free environment. You can
wreck the pump and even the engine in the worst case.

Dees the manifold heater work? Have you held it on for 40 seconds then hit the
primer and heard the pop as the diesel burns. Then you press the starter.

Does the engine fire on starting fluid? WARNING Do not use the manifold heater AND
starting fluid. If you do, you may be able to ask Henry Ford himself about your
problem. ;0)

Have you got a good strong flow of diesel to the lift pump from the tank?

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Do you have air free diesel at the pump bleed screws?

Is the cold start button on the injection pump stuck in? Try gripping it with a pair
of pliers and pulling it out as you move the stop backwards and forwards.

Have you opened the side plate of the pump and checked that the rack moves freely
with a little pressure from a screw driver. Some Automatic Transmission Fluid
squirted around in there may help and I would also put about a pint in a full tank
of diesel.
