Okay guy's , I think I am ready for initial start up of this engine. Couple questions first thing I expected to find engine harder to turn over by hand with injectors installed I could feel the compression while turning but still turned over with ease, yes valves are adjusted at 12 and 15, and decompression lever is in off position. Secondly I have had more than one person tell me to do first run with no water and run for a few minutes than retorque head is this a standard process which I should consider. Gentlemen any other advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Looks good but I would query the rubber hoses on the filter to injection pump and the return to tank line. If it is indeed rubber, diesel will cause it to deteriorate very quickly and I would not want to get rubber into the injection pump.

When I first start an engine, and I have overhauled at least a couple of hundred of this type over the years, once started, I like to let them run up to temperature and be able to watch for oil and water leaks as they warm up, then, once warm, retorque the head and reset the valves.

I have started them dry but you have to switch off fairly quickly to avoid problems and it does not tell you if you have water or oil leaks.
