Power Major engine oil

Hi Everyone, still new to owning a tractor, let alone an older diesel. I've been searching around trying to find consensus on what oils to use in the different areas of the tractor. (I live in New England so cold winters / hot summers. Don't really plan to use much in the winter).

One of the biggest issues I'm coming up against is understanding S.A.E 30 vs 30HD. I thought HD meant High Detergent, but apparently to create confusion and cash in on marketing, a lot of oils say HD meaning Heavy Duty. Are these the same thing?

I'd like the change the engine oil, and I have a few gallons of S.A.E 30 oil, claims its good for older diesels, it is a detergent oil, but it doesn't explicitly say "30HD."

Also, my understanding is that in the Power Majors, it's ok to also use this oil in the transmission and rear diff? Any recommendations on brands for this? With this much oil it gets pretty pricey.

I would recommend Morris's 20/50 oil. Not the most
expensive and they will deliver to your door. I have
known the company and used their oils for over 50 years.
I use this oil in my Petrol/paraffin E1A Major, Nuffield
4/65, TE20 Fergy and petrol Dexta. Also in the engine of
my Howard 350 rotavator. Don't have any problems summer
or winter, with starting.

I use it in the gearbox and hydraulics of every tractor
except the Major, have not needed to change that yet.

Google Morris's of Shrewsbury.

WE used to recommend Standard Delo 100 30 wt in summer, and 20 wt in winter. Seems that when Delo 100 became harder to get, we went to Delo
400 15/40, or Mobile Delvac 15/40.

Ooops, old age creeping (or rushing) in. I saw England and not the New in front so thought he was my side of the pond.

All other suggestions good but also look for Universal Tractor Oil or TOU. Do not use Super Tractor Oil Universal as it contains additives to eliminate brake squawk in modern tractors and these will plate the bores on an older tractor, causing loss of compression.
