Find injector pump

Hi. Hoping someone can advise how i reverse my injection pump 180 degrees. Do I remove the pump completely and turn engine so coupling bolt is below pump shaft and then refit? The flywheel is set at 26 degrees and using the claw bolts I was able to adjust the timing marks perfectly but wouldn't start. Not sure if the pump has been off but I'm assuming it has until I can be certain I've got the timing correct. I've read several articles on this but still can't be sure what to do. I'm assuming too the claw bolts slackened only allow a few degrees of adjustment not the full 180. Thanks

Remove the pump and turn the pump coupling rather than the engine. If you are 180
degrees out, you will get white smoke and no fire.

Another simple way to check is to look at the coupling clamp bolt. When you are timing,
the flywheel marks line up when the clamp bolt is below the drive shaft.

Diesel should be coming out of Number 1 injector pipe.

Ok . Thanks for your reply . It looks straightforward enough so I'll give it a go . I'm not convinced the pump has been off in which case I can't see how the timing is altered but it's a good place to start. I'm not really getting any white smoke either but definitely no firing so fingers crossed.

In 50+ years working on these engines I have never known one to go out of time
without either the coupling breaking or the keys sheared on the drive shaft and both
these cases are very rare.

If you are not getting white smoke then you are not getting diesel into the
cylinders for some reason. Even if the timing is way out, she should still be
spraying diesel into the cylinders which would cause the white smoke.

Are you sure you have a good flow of diesel from the tank and that the tank tap
filter is clean? Then you need a good jet from the bleeders on filter and pump when
using the hand primer.

The problem I have is not knowing how much my late father dismantled. I'm not convinced he would have remo ed or touched the pump at all but l8ke u say I also would have expected more out of the exhaust than I'm getting. I even sprayed some easy start into the air intake as I was told he used it quite a bit and it didn't even attempt to fire or run for a second which is strange also. My experience of these is pretty easy starting even when not touched for years but I'll keep exploring and thanks for your help. I'm going to try getting the tractor on a trailer and back to my property so it's easier to work on. At moments it's about 25 miles away !

Something we have not covered, the pump rack could be stuck. Clean around the side plate then remove the bolts and take the plate off. A screwdriver can be used to lever the rack which should spring back. A good squirt of Automatic Transmission Fluid on the rack and plungers as you move it will help.

Ok that's a possibility. I can check this out quite easily and I may just change the fuel filter and flush out the tank and lines too and try with fresh diesel. It looked a bit old to me when I was bleeding it. I know it probably wouldn't be why it won't fire but it may help in the long run
