Building up a Fordson Major

Constructed from gathered parts. Has an Industrial engine in a 1954 basic tractor.
One challenge was incorporating a power steering system. It seems there was a special
bell-crank which we don't have. The cylinder also seems smaller than it should be.

Do you mean the arm that fits on the left stub axle? That was different on PAS tractors as it had an extra web between where the ram fits and the drag link arm. Should be easy to make your own gusset and weld it in.

hello I have a major parts tractor with Iorn works w7 FM back hoe ran and worked till I parked it 20 years ago as well as my pet Fordson major diesel awesome tractors always starts down to 5 deg no block heater. its a Brut! what are you looking for? my steering system is a ford car pump with extra resivour and cooler due to heat it generated and expansion of its fluid

The cylinder (if my feeble old brain recalls correctly) looks to be about the right size. There were several aftermarket units made, so they may vary somewhat. I recently replaced one on a 5000, and and it is nearly identical to what you have. Majorman is right; if you are referring to the steering arm at the top of the left spindle, cut a piece of plate and weld it in as a gusset.

This was on my S/M, had Saginaw pump but pretty sure rest was factory.

This is a great topic, last winter I sold the PAS and purchased a drag link from Agriline to go back to manual steering. I had no idea there was a defference in steering arms so after reading cdmn post I looked in parts book and there is 2 p/n's. Then Majorman and SkipperII chime in that the gusset is the difference. What a relief it is to hear that!

Was working on it today, this is a PAS steering steering arm on a M/S tractor.

Thanks, I'm in the process of bring it back to original colours. I get a chuckle out of that during one of it's re-freshenings that the painter brushed painted the headlights, showing attention to the original paint scheme.

If that is the correct Fordson Major PS cylinder , then I think the rear anchor mounting should be located at the rear of the left side frame member where it is attached to the bell housing with 4 bolts.
