Fordson F carb

Ive got a 234 carb on my tractor with a evaporator.Are these carbs any good and easy to start?Fordson house told me a zenith K5 is a better
carb.My question is it worth changing carbs or keeping and working with what I have.The K5 came with the Fordson N.Also will my linkage fit
from one carb to the other

The 234 Holley carb was used for the first several years and was later changed to the Holley 280 which was very similar but a somewhat simpler design. The 234 outfit is really a nice looking historical setup and, if complete and properly installed, will provide adequate operation. My experience has been that the 234 makes for rather difficult starting and does not work as well on gasoline as on TVO (kerosene - sort of). I have several 234 setups on a 1918 and a 1919 and they work well until they get really warm at which time they seem to overheat the fuel and begin to run a little rough, regardless of where the shunt valve is directed. For me, it is worth it to have them "correct" but there are other carb setups that would probably be better for operation on gasoline. The later Fordson Model F tractors used several Kingston carbs which seem to run a little smoother. Keep in mind that the manifolds need to be changed to accommodate any different carburetors - they are all different. Some replacement manifolds are available from Rosewood Machine in Rosewood, Ohio.
