Fordson major serial number?

Recently bought a major diesel as a non runner, Im trying to find out if it has ever been registered and if not Id like to apply for a Reg, Iv located the engine number and some casting numbers off the gearbox and back end but cant seem to see a serial number.
The alluvium plate is on the firewall but is badly scorched and I cant make much out on it.
Any info or help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for the response, Iv looked at the links online where the serial/engine number should relate to a year, only the engine number doesnt seem to fit with any year example (could just be me, not understanding it)

That number is not a serial number or engine number from a tractor, it looks like an
industrial engine model number, so she may have had a replacement engine. Just double
check under No.1 injector on a flat spot on the block or on the flange behind the
starter. The numbers should be stamped not cast.

The casting numbers make her a 29th March 1955.

Thats it yes, its stamped on a flat on the right hand side just below the cylinder head joint. I guess it means its going to be impossible to find out if it was registered now, and equally as hard to register it myself if not? Thanks for finding out the age, thats good to know:

would you have a link to a pic showing the spot by the starter? Ive looked all around that area but nothing I can see or make out.

Here you go, it is quite faint, I usually rub some chalk in it to get it to show up.

Your number should be in the range of 1330197 to 1367817 for 1955.

Thanks for that....1387629 I think, its really really faint but after much rubbing and different lights, thats what I think it is. Is there any way of confirming it?

That makes her an April 1956 tractor. Castings could have been stored and used later
but normally the casting code is within a month of the serial number. You should not
have a problem getting her registered with that number. When I did mine I took pictures
of the casting codes, pictures of the serial number and pictures of the tractor at
work. Those got passed round the tax office and I had no problem getting her
registered.

Thats great news, thanks very much for all the help...I tried to add a pic up of the number, its difficult to even see that its a number on a photo, I may try some of that etching fluid on it.
Ill keep you posted , all the best.
