Can someone explain the location of the rear main bearing on the dexta engine. It appears to be located outside the oil pan but in side a cavity between engine and the adapter plate for the bell housing. Why would it not be inside the oil sump? I am confused on this.
thanks

The rear seal on the dexta engine is a rope seal which may require more space than a lip seal. Other than that I don't know. If it develops a leak it might be possible to replace it without removing the oil pan, but not having one in front of me I cannot check this out. I really wish Ford had of gone with a lip seal as they are a lot easier to install and probably don't leak as often. The later Massey 3.152 versions have a lip seal.
