1957 Major temperature gauge

Hello, I have the gauge only and would like to hook it up.
Should there be a sensor in the cooling system somewhere and a tube connecting to the gauge?
Can these parts be purchased?
A picture of the sensor location would be tremendous!

The gauge sender goes into the cylinder head near the top hose/thermostat housing. You will need a complete new gauge and sender unit as these come as one, connected by a tube. It is not possible to repair an existing unit. It may be possible to use a new electric sender and gauge if you can find one that fits the threads in the head.

Original style gauges are readily available and are of good quality.
