FMD primary gearbox stuck in high.

The lever spins on the shaft. Tightening nut does not help.
Tried loosening it the remove and inspect, but it won't come off shaft. Any advice on getting lever off shaft? Puller?
Thanks.

If I'm understanding correctly, your two speed is in high range, and the lever is rotating on the shaft. It was very common for them to do
this. We just welded them solid.

OK got that clamp bolt out, and lever off of shaft.
Took belt pulley plate off and got primary gears sliding with a little help from pry bar. Now the lever still spins on shaft.
Will a tack weld hurt the oil seal on that shaft?
I know JB Weld is generally frowned upon, but would it be worth a try?

You should be OK with just a tack. It has been many years since I had that problem but
seem to remember it is not a bolt that goes in there but, what we call in England a
"cotter bolt". It has no head but a flat on one side that goes in a notch in the
shaft.Like the bolt that holds the pedal crank on a bicycle.

happy to report I've got high and low working.
I know 30 wt, 20w15, or even 15w40 can be used in gearbox, but I'm not comfortable with that idea. Any reason not to use 90wt or similar?

30W or 20/30W or Tractor oil Universal is OK and was changed in 1959 from 90W. I would
not use 15/40W. In mine I use 20/50W but would have no problem putting 90W back. Only
reason I use 20/50W is all my tractors use the same implements at times so would not
want to mix 20/50W with 90W when I change over.

90W helps keep the gearbox and rear axle noise down. :0)
