Having trouble with lift consistency. Starts out strong but as work progresses lift loses strength and full range. Drained rear and cleaned wire mesh screen. Had SAE 90 in and changing to SAE 30 H.D. as many in forum have suggested. Question: will residual 90wt be incompatible with the 30wt? If so, is there an effective way of purging system of residual 90wt? Also have 90wt in trans. Should that be replaced as well?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. This forum has been an incredible resource for me in the past and I am confident it will continue to be as helpful for me in the future!

The residual 90 wt won't be a problem. On the majors, old hardening O rings can become a problem. We used to pull the plate, or control valve just forward and under the seat, and replace those O rings. We would also remove the lift housing, flip up and replace the lift cylinder housing to lift cover O rings.

Hey! Thanks so much for the timely reply. Much appreciated. I'll move forward with the 30wt. then and if no improvement progress with the insights you suggested. I'll post my outcomes as they develop.

Stay safe and well and thanks again!

You really need to do a pressure test, 2200 to 2500 psi. That will tell you where your problem is likely to be. I would suspect pump wear if it is OK to start then slows down as the oil gets hot.

Supers should have had 30W or Tractor Oil Universal in from day one but an old trick done by some people to hide a weak pump was to fill the back end with 90W.

Thank you for your insight.

Thank you for your response and insights. I will explore that and as they say, "the plot thickens!"
