I had the opportunity to buy one of my grandfathers old tractors back. I m looking for some help. I think if I remember correctly it had 4400 on the side of it. But not sure of that either.
Here is the 3 number off the Bell housing. Infront the starter under the fuel tank valve. If any one can help unscramble the mystery of make model year and all the good stuff it will take to refurbish the tractor. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Model # D4014C is for a 4400 utility with diesel engine,independent 540 pto and 8x2 manual trans

Serial # C281244 is for a tractor built in the US in 1970

Tractor is a 1970 model 4400

I have attached the tractor i'm working on and a tractor i have found on internet. i will need to be purchasing. fenders fender mounts, grill, whatever it takes to screw grill in to place, ( what i have no clue of what its called Sheet Metal under dash that covers steering gearbox, as well as what ever went in the hole above the breather assembly on front nose of tractor,
if you can please help with this info and even where to buy it from.

That lower panel Ford calls a steering column cover, I leave them off for easier access to the key switch, light switch and throttle linkage.
For that tractor a 2 3/4" plug goes in the hole, on ag models the pre cleaner pipe sticks up thru that hole.
I'm thinking around 71 Ford painted the industrial models all yellow, prier models had blue chassis with a lighter yellow sheet metal and wheels.

I painted my 69 4500 chassis blue but went with the later yellow, I think it looks better.

As time went on the tractor still rested down that hill next to a also retired IH side delivery rake. The produce company later shut down and the farm was abandon for most of the rest of the decade only having the 2 JDs antifreeze checked every year and the 1050 sometimes started and taken to mow somewhere else.

2 piece grills, the lower has been plastic since mid 68, the upper was aluminum until 71 when it was changed to plastic.
I bought some of the last original aluminum uppers Ford had back in the 90's, until recently plastic upper was the only choice but I've seen some repop aluminum's on eBay lately, but $150+ price tag without letters is double the price of both pieces in plastic.
Put a aluminum upper in my 72 4000SU because I like the look and they weren't that high back then.

That hole if where the breather tube, for an oil bath air cleaner would have come through. I don't know if it has been modified, or if that
was a transition.

This has nothing to do with the 4400 but do you know the Numbers on a Ford 3000. if so here is what i pulled off my tractor
if you can translate the Numbers for me please
6L4C
L166
B*831166*

6L4C means it was built Nov 4 1966 on afternoon shift
Don't know what L166 means
B in the serial number means the tractor was built in Basildon, England
There should be a model code stamped in the same area, probably in the ruff casting behind the machined flat.

Interesting! I've seen some odd stuff on the Euro models.
Yours should have a model code like D40???
D40 = 4400 utility
? = Engine type, 1 = Diesel, 2 = gas, ect
? = pto type, on a 4400 1 = no pto, 4 = independent 540 pto
? = trans type, C = 8x2 manual, K = 6x4 manual reverser, ect
Tell me what it has and I can make up the code.
