Fordson Major Mains

I just learned there are .050" undersized main bearings available for the 220 cid Fordson Major Diesel engine. The local Ford dealer can't get them so they
must be aftermarket. Does anyone know where on this planet they can be found?

Hi
From my experience and from what an old established machine shop told me from the days these motors had there first rebuilds. If you have to go past a 30 thou regrind the cranks junk. At 30 most or all of the hardness is gone and the new bearings will wear into it in no time it will be like machining butter after that, that machine shop had seen 100's of them over the years.

I've worked on lots of these motors and many of the 30 regrinds from the last repair have huge wear ridges in to prove the point.
put the money you'd spend on the grind towards a new standard crank, it's pretty hard to find good used ones any better than what you got already, unless you hit the jackpot. I've done it twice one was standard and took 30 after a guy seized a one family owner tractor I use here for grass cutting, the other was at 10 I pulled from a parts tractor that caught fire and "just" made 30 to save it for a rebuilt engine that sits in the shop for another project.

Thanks fellas. I checked a couple suppliers and the least expensive new crank was $749.00. This tractor will be what some would call a trailer queen so I'll have to flip a coin on the new vs reground crank, but thanks for the info robert major, I hadn't thought of that.

You can buy a new crank and bearings for about half that from emmark in uk but shipping not included and I
have no connection with the firm
