Clutch and brake question

I have a 1922 F model. I know that some of these tractors are made up with parts that have been changed over the years ,heres my question- I have a transmission plate with a brake lever but the reverse idler has none of the brake components.I bought a used idler and brake assembly but it dosent seem to use the same center bushing that fits into the grove in the trans plate? the clutch lever has the provision for the brake adjusting bolt but it wasnt there. I have read where some people leave out the brake adjusting bolt so the clutch works better. looking for advice on which way to go dont want to have to pull tractor apart again ,,thanks
