Where to look for parts

Hello. I am new to this forum. I have a 1956 fordson major diesel I purchased in 1993 to do some logging. Now I am farming and just use it for a utility tractor. It still runs good but I need to get a few parts now and again and was wondering where to look. Right now I would like to get an injection pump coupler assembly.

This is the link for the complete unit. Usually all you need is the pad that goes between the coupling sections. YT carries that also. If
it is just noisy, you can braze them, file them to fit the pad.

Skipper gives good advice. Be aware that most Majors "clatter"
at the pump drive, they did that when new and even with a new
pump drive pad, in a short while, it will clatter again. There
is an answer and that is to fit the coupling from a truck or
industrial engine which has rubber inserts. These are available
over here in England and you replace both sides of the coupling.

To me, a pump drive "clatter" is part of the Major sound as long
as it is not the drive flanges themselves moving on the drive
shaft.

thanks for the link. I need the whole unit. Broke the part that adjusts timing a while back and did a farmer repair on that but now the disc piece split so want to just replace whole thing. I thought clatter was just because it worn. Won t worry about that anymore.

If you are replacing the drive side of the coupling watch out
because there are two different key way sizes. The later
tractors had a larger "D" key. You could fit a later auxiliary
drive shaft with the larger key way but it would also require a
new drive gear on the oil pump. So you would have to remove the
timing cover and front mounting plate to get the shaft out,
also drop the sump to get the oil pump out to replace the gear.

None of this is as bad as it sounds, just a lot of work. We
used to do it in 3/4 of a day. ( But it would probably take me
a week now) :0(
