54 Fordson Major misfires after idling

54 Major is in good shape, I only use it for light work, and change oil and filters etc on schedule. It now misfires for a while after it has idled, but then gets back to full fire after a few minutes at higher throttle. What might be causing this misfire? Fuel pump? I know gas engines, but not diesels, so your help/ideas will be very much appreciated, thank you.

Could be injector or injection pump. First I would try some Standine injector cleaner then I would use a pint of ATF per tank for a few fill-ups and see how it goes. I use a pint of ATF in the diesel in my tractors about every two fills.

Thank you Majorman. Kinda hoped you'd have some advice, as you just really know these marvelous old tractors and their habits.

You say that the tractor is serviced on schedule .... does that include oil in air filter ... could the injector pump drive
Coupling be worn affecting timing
I am not disputing what major man says about putting
ATF fluid in fuel tank but I tried it in my petter PH 1 sawbench engine and it smoked..... perhaps I put too much in or are there different types of ATF??
