Changing Fordson starter to newer Ford starter

I have a Fordson Super Major which the starter went out on. I was told by the local repairman that I could order a more modern Ford starter, and use it. He said I could put a key switch or a push button on it to make it work. My question is this...could anyone give me a wiring diagram for this change? The old one had the lever going to the starter to engage it. The new one that I have ordered has a more modern solenoid on it. I need to know how to wire this to make it work.

I would say there is nothing wrong with push down
Lever starter on your tractor so why change
Also the major is one of the best starting tractors
ever made

I am looking at the same problem, If you change to the new style I believe you will have to convert to negative ground charging system as well since the newer starters are negative ground. replacing the old inadequate lucas generator if dobe fairly easy with a Delco 1 wire alternator from an old GM car. Imagine having 65 - 105 amps charging. On your new style starter you will have a large lug for the hot battery cable and a small terminal for power from the key switch or a push button. very easy. Wiring in the Delco Alternator is almost as easy.

What was the replacement starter part number i would like to upgrade mine ?

I don,t know the part number for the newer Ford starter but I did buy a used starter from a wrecker off of a Ford 5000 ( newer 1000 Series tractor). Fits right on and works great.. Lots more amp. power to spin the Fordson over without having to use the decompressor by times. However ,, be aware ,, the starter mounted solenoid protudes outward where the tool box is mounted .. You will have to re-locate tool bow to right side.

I forgot to mention that I did install a push button to activate the starter mounted solenoid . Simply power push button from a live terminal from key switch when in on position.
