Grandpa s new toy, my new project

So long story short, my Grandpa has accumulated quite a few old iron tractors, some he used on his father s farm, some he had and some he wished he had. This is one that doesn t fall into any of those categories. It interested him, the price was right and it had decent rubber on it. I ve restored and helped him restore countless Case and Farmalls, this is a completely different monster as I know next to nothing about them. That s why I ve come here, to gain some knowledge! It hasn t been regularly used in 15 to 20 years but I plan on hauling some wagon loads of wood this fall, so I m going to start with maintenance items and then start with cosmetic things through winter and next year.

Great tractors! Many thousands were made at Dagenham here in England and exported all over
the world. Parts are easy to get from England from Agriline and Old 20 Parts Co.Sparex and Vapormatic, among
others.
Very rugged tractor with a good engine/gearbox and transmission. Yours dates somewhere
between 1952 and August 1958.

This one is a little way from England, as it s current home is in NE Iowa USA. Mechanically it seems like it s in decent shape. At idle it has a surge off and on, I m hoping to run some injector cleaner through it and fresh diesel to maybe clear that up. Is that the proper color scheme or was it repainted at one time? I haven t seen many that look like this.

Yes those colours are correct for the US. In England they were Blue and Orange. Surge may
be due to the vacuum governor, on the front of the housing where the two pipes go in there
is a square headed screw with a locknut. You may find a slight adjustment here might cure
your problem. Also there is a breather with a wire mesh filter on the top of the pump, try
cleaning that.

Your Grandpa is going to love that tractor for hauling wood. They burn next to nothing for fuel. Your tractor has been repainted the 62-64 US model Super Major 5000 colors. Yours would have blue with orange wheels and grill (I think). Parts from UK are reasonable and shipping is usually fairly fast to Canada

Pictures show the early Majors being loaded on ships for the US are painted White and Blue,
and PLEASE no ORANGE GRILLS :0( The grills were either blue on the early wire mesh grills
or silver on the pressed steel ones after 1956.

Thanks for all the responses! I'll definitely check the governor and breather this weekend when I get back out to the farm. I'll snap a few more pictures as well to further verify what it is, and if nothing else just to show it off some more haha! It's definitely a treat to run around with. We have a lot of wood to cut this year so I imagine between the Major and our Case 400 (my usual tractor for hauling wood) we'll have some fun with it :D

I once again need axle parts for the Roadless four wheel drive on my 5000 super major. Do you know anywhere that I might find them? I am in USA Specifically looking for right side axle pieces Thanks in advance
