lubing the fuel injector

My Fordson Major has an oiling cup on the side of the fuel injector. I've been using an oil can to squirt a few shots of oil into the cup before starting the engine, but the oil rapidly drains into the body of the fuel injector.

Can someone fill me in on the correct procedure? Is a few squirts enough, or do I need to try and fill the cup up?

with appreciation,

Walt

No oil is required to be added to that pump unless you are putting it into storage. All the
working parts are lubricated by the diesel OIL passing through. You are putting oil into
the cambox which is immediately diluted by the diesel and runs out of the pigtail pipe at
the side of the pump. Whilst you are doing no harm, I have found that a quart of Automatic
Transmission Fluid mixed in a tank of diesel is more beneficial.
