Can't remove starter on late 40s model 8N Tractor

Hello,

It was recommended I post here instead of the Ford 8N forum in case there's a difference with my model tractor. I was under the impression the Ford and Ferguson 8Ns were identical but maybe not. My starter has a short and is mounted on the left side of the motor but I can't remove it as it's butted up against the distributor that sits directly in front of it. I've attached a crude drawing of my dilemma in case any of you fine folks has any input. This was a tractor I'd inherited recently and motors are not my strong suit. Photo attached as well...only one I had readily available. Appreciate the help!

you have a FERGUSON TRACTOR.......

Place your post on the FERGUSON section..

FORD....FERGUSON..

Different MOTHERS and Different FATHERS....

Henry F. and Harry F. shared the Three point hitch, Hydraulic Pump...front Axel.... for a short period of time...

I own a FORD 2-N as well as a Ferguson TEA-20.......

Then their is the GRAY FERGUSON built in England ..and the GRAY FERGUSON built in the USA....different Engines.

There is no such tractor as a Ferguson 8n. You have either a TO20 or TO30 Ferguson tractor. The starter will not come out without removing the distributor first.

I think it's interesting to note that the Fordson Dexta with Standard Engine, moved the starter to the other side.

"what we have here is failure to communicate." for future reference:

u own a ferguson tractor. that's not a ford, and it's not a fordson. u are more likely to get the help u need if u post your questions in the forum that corresponds to the brand of tractor u actually have.

click here for the correct forum to ask questions about ferguson tractors.

American built Ferguson TO20 and Britsh-made TE20 had the same Continental Z120 engine. Electrics were different along with some castings.
