Major 4 wheel drive

I'm looking at a Fordson Major 4x4 at a local auction sale. The tag on it says it's a 4p serial number 15186. I can't seem to find a year for that number. Am I missing something? It has 28 tires all the way around, is that normal. I've seen some done up and look pretty cool, I just don't know much about them. Any info would be great. Thanks

Fordson (Ford) never built a four wheel drive tractor, what you have is a County conversion if it
has four equal sized wheels. Yes, it could have 28" wheels.

The serial number would be County's own rather than a Ford one, the engine number/serial number used
by Ford will be under number one injector.

This is a County Super Four and a County Super Six, if it is one of these be prepared to pay a lot
of money.

It's definitely not as nice as the ones in those pictures. The tag doesn't say it's a super 4 or 6. I don't know if that matters. This one has a front loader, hope made cab and is pretty beat up. I know without a picture your can't tell but what is one worth that needs full restoration. How hard are they to get parts

That looks like an early version on possibly a Power Major. If it could be bought for the
right price and all the junk stripped off, providing it is not too bad, it would be worth
doing.

Parts would be available for the tractor engine and rear axle, gearbox bearings may be
extra heavy duty County spec. but should be available. Front drives and half shafts are
possibly available here in the UK from A. T. Osbourne but would be pricey.

Problem would be that you would possibly put in as much as it is worth in parts not
counting time. Saying that however they are a much sort after tractor and, even in tatty
condition make good money. If it is an early version they are quite rare.

Hi
That county looks to me like it's built on a ford 5000 type tractor from the late 60's or 70's. it has 8 stud wheel hubs, instead of 6's like the
old fordsons had. it also looks to me like it has the newer square tin on, and it's probably a 4 cylinder as it doesn't have the power bulge hood
like my six cylinder 954's have for the battery and larger air cleaner..

I can't see enough to say that it might be a pre force 654 or later ford force 754 county conversion. If the county mechanics of it are good, it
would be a nice tractor to have at the right price. Thats why I have 2 954's as parts are real hard to find in Canada or the U.S unless you get
lucky in a wreckers yard.

I want to make one real nice tractor from the 2 and then sell the other one when I'm done, if it still runs and drives. Mine don't have loaders, I
have about 10.000 CDN in mine. The cheaper one of the 2 don't run but I found a motor for it to get parts when I'm finished with swapping a few bits
over.
Regards Robert
