1959 fordson power major mark 3 diesel

Hey guys, I just got a 59 fordson power major diesel and was wondering about changing fluids. It has the loader on the front, 3pt, live hydraulics and pto of course. It says sae 90 for trans and differential on a tag on the firewall but I can't find that anywhere. The engine also says straight 30w I believe. Can I use regular 15w40 diesel oil in the engine? It would actually be wolfs head semi synthetic 15w40 I would put in the engine since that's what we have in a drum and put in all the other diesels. Also was thinking the oil used should have zinc in for the engine? Can I use regular 80w90 in the trans? I see a lot of people say use the same oil in the rear and trans but nothing I've found is clear as what to use and nothing specifies if they have the actual hydraulic lines for live hydraulics. I would think hydraulic fluid would go in the rear then but I'm no expert that's why I came here to see. I got it running and the loader works, 3pt arms go up and down, pto engages and in that amount of time blew a hydraulic fitting on the loader, blew a rad hose and had oil leaking out of the front seal. So what I am asking is what oil goes in the engine, trans, rear and the loader hydraulics. The answers may seem obvious but I want to be sure since I see things saying the seals are sensitive to different oils and don't really want to tear it apart to replace seals too right away. Thanks for your time.

If it were mine I would not use semi-synthetic 15/40W in the engine. I use either
Multiuse or straight HD30. I have suffered from oil leaks and low oil pressure
when using synthetic oils and my supplier recommended me to go back to "straight"
oil. All my problems disappeared when I started back using Multiuse 20/50W. This
is my experience and I have worked on these tractors for the past 50+ years.

As far as the gearbox and rear axle are concerned, Ford changed the specification
back in 1959 for all their range from 1952 to Multiuse 20/30W or 30W for all
gearboxes and rear axles except for areas of extreme hot climates

Thanks for the help. I already put 15w40 semi synthetic in the motor but never started it yet so I'll drain that tomorrow and filled the trans with 80-90 gear oil but if nothing else at least rinsed them out a little. I'm getting sae 30w non detergent for everything. Got 6 cases coming tomorrow. Now this oil doesn't have zinc so should I put the additive in for zinc in the motor oil or leave it go? Also, I know some tractors use different weights of oil for the air cleaner. Is the 30w I'm getting good for the air cleaner? Don't want to suck it up... the loader part use regular 46 hydraulic fluid in there? Thanks for the helpful info... I may have ended up ruining seals without. I'm thinking this is what may have ruined my rear main in my case vac. I was using 15w40 semi sync in there because it burned some and I had plenty of that laying around. Thanks again for your help.

The oil you need is NOT SAE 30W non-detergent, it is HD30 which is a detergent
diesel engine oil.

The oil you have in, 15/40W and 80/90W will be OK and engine wise, you could go
back to HD30 at your next oil change rather than waste the oil.

I see. The guys at the parts store were telling me non det 30 was the same thing. They're getting the right stuff now. Thanks

Does this tractor require oil in the injection pump? I've seen quite a few posts saying they take oil. Mine seems noisy but maybe that's normal. If it does, I have a Simms injection pump by the way, where does it go in and how much? This tractor sat for quite a few years before I got it and it still doesn't start without a tiny shot of ether in the area of the air cleaner. It smokes white decently but seems to run ok and smokes black as I get a load on it. Thanks
