Fordson Major interchangeability rear diff and drive

Quite similar up to 1964 (for USA). The style of brakes varies, and some had locking
differentials. Likewise, there were variations in the PTO. They evolved from the 1945 E27N,
and may share some part numbers. You need to check the parts book.

I guess I had better get myself a parts book and a shop manual. My 55 has two small cracks in the casing around the axle mounting bolts, might not amount to anything but in the event they do then I would like to have a spare, the one I would be getting came off a working tractor that the engine was used to replace a blown one in his backhoe but he is not sure what year that one was. I think in a bit newer years you didn't have to engage your PTO in order to get your hydraulics but whether there is any major differences to the case itself I will have to do some research.- Already have a spare parts engine, might as well have a whole diff.
